Started in 1863 as a family run property maintenance company, the name changed to Alexander Oastler Ltd.
in 1923 when the husband
of the family's grand-daughter took over. By this time Alexander Oastler & Co. or "Oastlers" as they
have become known had developed into one of the largest joinery contractors in the Dundee & Angus area carrying
out many sizeable public and privately commissioned works.
In 1930 Lawson Ramsay (the current managing director’s father) joined the company as an apprentice
and worked
with them until serving abroad during the second world war. After the war Lawson Ramsay
teamed up with David Urquart and bought the company from ‘Sandy’ Oastler and continued to build
on Oastler’s reputation as a joinery and building contractor of high standing.
To this day Alexander Oastler Ltd has a reputation for its ability to carry out high quality works both on a large
and small scale over a broad spectrum of works.
From fitting out, theatres and restaurants, refurbishing shops and shop fronts, to hanging a door, replacing a
window or fitting a kitchen worktop Oastlers has the technical and manual skills to get the job done with its skilled
directly employed workforce of over 40 tradesmen and comprehensively equipped
12,000 sq. ft workshop.
